Animal-Human Hybrids

National Geographic News had printed an article in January about scientests in China who have successfully created embryos out of human and rabbit DNA.

The embryos are called chimeras because they are a mix of two species in one body.

What are the ethical issues?

Should the US do this too?

Personally, I don't think I like the idea of creating manimals, or whatever you'd call it. It's a little scary, especially since I don't know much about it, but also because it makes me think about what might happen because of this research. Will this give scientest the opportunity to create manimals for reasons other than research of diseases? Like creating a new species, maybe a man-bull like in mythology stories? What else?

I agree experimenting with human life and animal life should not be tampered with in anyways.

There was a time when it was progressive to embrace science wholly, but with new technology its important to set some guidelines. Eugenics is a branch I detest personally because it has the potential to one day eliminate all the Van gohs, Hellen Kellers and virginia woolfs.

Some eyeraising questions I've also heard about is the couple with hearing disability hoping to "engineer" a deaf child. As is proven, with deafness a part of the brain is less acive.

another couple with dwarfism hoped to make sure that their child would also have dwarfism.

There's always the argument that it is natural to want a child to be part of the culture of the family, but maybe some thing are best left to chance. If it comes to eugenics I would rather embrace the conditions like diabetes and autism. It is fruitless and childish to expect humans to improve internally without improving our enviornment. To quote an important figure in psychology, " the genes themselves are seeds dropped onto pavement"

know the goverment wants to play around with the ecosystem and i dont think its right they should just leave it alone before they put to of the wrong heads together

I think it's dangerous to play with these kind of thing's, but if the science can be used to further mandkind and is not used in corruption, then I think it's absolutly fine.
